Update: August 2014

This month has been a very chilled and relaxing month for me. I’ve been spending time on the farm that my aunty works on, pretty much doing nothing (and that’s a good thing). It’s been a lot of meeting new people, millions of cheek kisses and lots of delicious food. It’s crazy to think that in just over three weeks I’ll be waving goodbye to the farm life and going back to big cities for Uni in the UK. These past couple of weeks have been filled with lots of planning for Freshers week in Cardiff, (I am so excited,) finding my fellow flatmates and enrolling etc. It’s definitely making me more and more excited, and I’m already dreading having to leave, despite not even being there yet! I still have a lot to catch up on blogging-wise, it’s difficult without wifi on the farm (I have to drive 10 minutes away to even get 3G), but I’ll get there slowly and surely, especially once I get to Cardiff. Expect posts about Nice, Monaco, more …

Planes and Trains

3 July 2014 Today was a big travel day for us as we were leaving Germany by plane to go back to Paris and then taking a train down to Limoges. We woke up, had breakfast and then did last minute packing before checking out of our hotel. We still had a few hours to kill so off we trekked with our backpacks and suitcases to do some last minute shopping. We then headed to the big central station to catch the S-Bahn to the airport for our flight. After a bit of trouble checking in luggage, we had a wee bit of a rush (that’s an understatement) to our departure gate- which had changed last minute. The rush also included me forgetting my boarding pass at customs (that was one major freak out I had). Luckily one of the security found me before I had to do the quick sprint all the way back. We finally got on the plane safe and sound and had our super quick flight back to Paris where Catherine …

Did I really go to that? Oh yes I sure did!

2 July 2014 So I’m going to be very honest right now… The reason I actually went to Germany was to go to a concert. And not just any old concert, but a 5SOS/One Direction concert. Yes, yes, yes roll your eyes, go ahead. But yeah, that’s me being honest. And overall, apart from not being able to see too much (shortness is not your best friend while in General Admission at concerts,) it honestly was a tremendously good concert and the boys were genuinely really good (yup, they can actually sing). We took the S-Bahn again to ESPIRIT arena and queued for about three to four hours, thank goodness we didin’t go any later because already, the line was incredible. So long, but worth it in the end! Anyway that’s all, here’s some photos. Ciao.

Chateau de Versailles

For some reason this has been sitting as a draft among my posts and has gone unpublished, so here it is…. finally!   27 June 2014 Yesterday was an incredibly exciting day. The previous time I had been to Paris I hadn’t been able to make it to the Chateau, and after briefly visiting it a couple of days ago I was even more excited to have a look inside. We had purchased tickets online the day before, so didn’t have to line up to get inside. We had to go through a security checkpoint, where we had to put our bags through an x-ray machine and we had to walk through metal detectors. After no hiccups we were free to go inside! The entrance led us out into the courtyard, behind the gold gates. The front of the Chateau is amazing. The gold details stand out beautifully against the dark blue. Once in the courtyard we walked across to the start of the tour. We decided to line up for audio guides, and were …

Day Trip to Schloss Benrath

1 July 2014 [You can watch the vlog version here if it tickles your fancy] On our second full day in Dusseldorf we decided to try our luck with the public transport, so headed out to Schloss Benrath to have a lunch and a walk around the gardens. After embarrassingly missing the first tram we took the next one that came to the Schloss. It took us about 20 minutes by the S-Bahn to get there and we were greeted by cute pink buildings and hungry stomachs. We headed to the cafe for lunch, I had a broccoli soup and a caramel latte (my first, in quite a few days). Then Moana and I had a long walk around the grounds and found ourselves down by the river where we sat down for a snack of chips, bread and cheese. In the late afternoon we headed back into the city centre. We then had a walk around the Altstdat (the old part of Dusseldorf) and along the Ko (the street where all the high end …

Shopping, Shopping, Shopping

30 June 2014 [There’s a vlog version here if it tickles your fancy] First things first, shopping. Like I’ve mentioned earlier, we had arrived in Europe the day the big summer sales started and just like in France, Germany had just as many good sales to take advantage of. We woke up at about 9.30 and quickly headed down to the breakfast area for breakfast… funny that. The dining area was really nice. The tables were a very sophisticated black, with lovely furniture and there was also a deck that looked out onto the small yard that ended in a tall, old brick wall that was covered in vines. Breakfast was buffet style, with the typical cereals, pastries, fruits and yoghurts as well as different things like antipasto type foods. We were also asked whether we wanted some of the hot breakfast, which today was scrambled eggs. Manned with a map that the hotel had given us the night before, we headed out, trying to find the shopping area of Dusseldorf. After not really knowing …
