Oh my, the first currently of the year- only 7 months in, but better late than never, non?
This month has mostly involved settling back into life in Auckland. I’m not going to lie, it’s tough. Like, very, very tough. Every day I’ve been pining for my life back at Disney and in the States. I’ve just had to keep telling myself that it was the best thing to do, what with the student loan I need to pay off and me wanting to actually start my journalism/ media career, neither of which I would be able to achieve at Disney.
I guess the hardest thing is that in this situation I did have the opportunity to extend if I’d wanted to. But because of the timing of when they asked, I totally thought I’d be fine leaving Disney and coming home. Fast forward to two weeks before I was set to leave Orlando and man was I wrong! But I guess that’s life and I just have to keep telling myself that things happen for a reason.
I’ve been pretty lucky that my old manager at LUSH gave me an email a week before I was scheduled to touch down on home soil, so within the first week of getting back I was already back at work and trying to earn those dollars (which will probably be spent on more future travel, let’s be honest guys). I’m still actively looking for journo and media jobs while at LUSH, but it’s just a relief to have something at the moment that’s bringing in a bit of income, also I love working at LUSH, so that always helps!
Enough rambling though, here’s a quick run down of this month:
Reading: Nothing at the moment. I’m still slowly trying to make my way through the Outlander series. I also recently started reading the Harry Potter series for the bajillionth time. So there’s that.
Watching: Guys, this must come as a shock to you all, but I am currently not watching anything! While overseas I had absolutely horrible internet, so watching shows was just too painful. I am currently so far behind on everything, and I’m pretty much at a loss of where to start! Game of Thrones is about the only series I’ve actually kept up with.
Listening to: Been listening to quite a few songs on Drake’s Views and also liking a lot of Astrid S‘ music at the moment too.
Dreaming of: Being back at Disney, or getting a job at a magazine in New York City… a girl can dream.
Planning: At the moment I’m just try start by saving. I would absolutely love to go on another wee trip this time next year to visit friends in the UK and of course head across the pond to catch up with the Disney paaaals. The Melbourne Cup in November has also been on the lips of a few of my friends.
Making: Time to try start working out again. While at Disney I was okay-ish at working out and going to the gym for the first couple of months, but then things starting sliding down hill a bit. My Dad’s on a fitness buzz at the moment, so I’ve joined him and we’ve got a competition to see who can achieve abs first. That’s keeping me motivated aha.
Enjoying: This is going to sound sad af, but this post-travel sadness is hella hard. I’m trying to enjoy being home but as much as I’ve loved seeing my friends and family again, the pull to get on a plane again is just too strong. Oh I thought of one– I’m enjoying having good coffee again!
Eating: A bit unhealthily actually. The fam have all been out late most nights, so home-cooked meals have been on the back burner for the last couple of weeks. Now that my Mum’s back from her travels though, home-cooked meals are going to be the regular again for sure.
Goal setting: Because I’ve got a little more time on my hands now that I don’t have to worry about uni, I’m taken it upon myself to try and learn a couple of languages. My French comprehension definitely improved while I was living in France, but my pronunciation and sentence forming is abysmal. I’ve also begun learning Spanish, both on Duolingo which is fine at the moment, but I’m not sure how effective it will be in the long-run. Only time will tell. (If anyone has learnt a language using Duolingo, let me know in the comments! How did you find it?)
Lusting over: Travel destinations! My Mum just came back from Spain and I have a couple of friends who also visited Spain recently and it looks absolutely amazing. Puerto Rico is also in the wanderlust list, as is Canada.
