Living the Student Life: Tips

Despite the fact that I’m nearly starting my third year of university, it wasn’t until a few months ago that I was able to experience the ‘real’ student life Going to university in Auckland and already living in Auckland meant that living at home with my parents was a whole lot easier and cheaper, and it is pretty much the normal thing to do if you’re already a JAFA (just another fucking Aucklander; apparently the rest of New Zealand hate us). This resulted in me staying at home all the time studying and watching television shows instead of socialising with the rest of the world. I was in my own little bubble most of the time. Living in a flat with 7 other people, all but one who I had never seen or spoken to in my entire life was definitely a new and exciting experience, and it was honestly the best experience, EVER. Naturally, over the past few months I’ve discovered some things that work better than others, so I thought I’d compile them in a list for …

Kiwi Lingo: A Guide to New Zealand Slang

I’ve been a bit nervous about doing this post, mainly because I feel like I have no idea what I’m talking about (which in reality is pretty ridiculous since I’m a Kiwi (the slang word for a New Zealander- but you already knew that) who was born and has lived in New Zealand my entire life). Also because some of this stuff is so cringe, but whatever. I’ve been doing a bit of research; reading blogs and watching videos, and have finally compiled a list of slang words and phrases that you might hear often in New Zealand, I’ve tried to use ones unique to New Zealand, but there’s bound to be similarities between Australian and British slang as well. As a rule, Kiwis are pretty lazy. We hardly articulate any of our words which leads to our accent, and we like to shorten words as much as possible (even writing this, I was tempted to write “poss”). Again, Aussies do this often too. Oh and Kiwis use the word “as” ALL the time. We …

GOLDFISH AND MONEY | March 2014

Either, I have the intelligence and attention span of a goldfish, or uni readings are actually really hard. via Tumblr I’m currently in the middle of writing my first uni essay of the year… and by writing I mean, reading the readings I should have read three weeks ago. The problem I find with these kinds of things though, are how ridiculously complicated some of these readings are. Many of these things leave you wondering whether they even knew what they were going on about… This isn’t always the case, but for this essay in particular; blimey! Side-note, while I can’t really pick up more work hours to earn more money for my trip, I did think of another way to earn a little bit of cash; selling clothes on ASOS Marketplace! The reason I picked this site over sites like eBay or TradeMe (which is a New Zealand site) is because it’s only fashion and accessory items being sold and people who go on this site are going to be more interested in what …
