1 Year Since Walt Disney World

It is absolutely mental to think that it has been exactly ONE year since I landed in Orlando, Florida to begin my unforgettable six month adventure working for Walt Disney World. I’ve gushed endlessly about how amazing my time there was so I won’t say much more. But what I will do is share a few of my Disney World highlights with you, thanks to some help from my ‘appy mate Instagram. If you have any questions about the Disney College Program don’t hesitate to drop a comment down below or get in contact with me directly! I’d love to help! Warning: This may take a wee while to load! JANUARY Yup, exactly one year ago I landed in Orlando and hung out with Scar and the hyenas at Disney’s Art of Animation Resort! I stayed in one of the Little Mermaid Rooms. First night with all the Kiwi and Aussie roommates at our CP apartment in Chatham Square. It may have been pouring down with rain but THIS WAS THE DAY OF OUR TRADITIONS AND ALSO OUR …

New Year, same me?

It’s weird how quickly you can get stuck into a routine and not realise how fast time is passing you by. It’s absolutely mental that it’s been six months since I arrived back into the country, four months since I’ve started my first full time job and now already into the first week of 2017. In all honesty, I never thought I would ever get so attached to my time at Disney World. Applying for the program was a kind of last minute, “we’ll see how it goes” decision and while I loved Disney as much as the next person, I was definitely not Disney-crazy and was initially nervous that I would be out of place because of this. But the experience, the people I met, the friends I made and yes, even the tiring work days are days I wish I could go back to every day. And I definitely feel like I’ve become one of those people who always begins sentences with “When I was at Disney…” I cringe, I cringe. I’m still loving my …

Currently: July 2016

Oh my, the first currently of the year- only 7 months in, but better late than never, non? This month has mostly involved settling back into life in Auckland. I’m not going to lie, it’s tough. Like, very, very tough. Every day I’ve been pining for my life back at Disney and in the States. I’ve just had to keep telling myself that it was the best thing to do, what with the student loan I need to pay off and me wanting to actually start my journalism/ media career, neither of which I would be able to achieve at Disney. I guess the hardest thing is that in this situation I did have the opportunity to extend if I’d wanted to. But because of the timing of when they asked, I totally thought I’d be fine leaving Disney and coming home. Fast forward to two weeks before I was set to leave Orlando and man was I wrong! But I guess that’s life and I just have to keep telling myself that things happen …

2 Hours Until Disney

Is there a prize for least efficient blogger? Because if so, that should go to me. My excuse? My laptop was stolen. Yup, literally just days before I’m meant to leave someone stole my laptop. Typical. Because of this blogging has been a bit hard, but I am now armed with a tablet (a slow one tbh though,) and will be trying my hardest to blog and vlog when I can! Meanwhile I’m having my last legal drink for a couple of months (I don’t turn 21 until March) and doing all the last minute checks! First stop: LOS ANGELES! See ya there.

6 FYIs About the Disney Cultural Exchange Program

In light of the fact that I’m leaving for the US in 7 (!!) days, I thought I’d motivate myself to be a more consistent blogger by doing a blog post every day for the next week, leading up to my departure. Today I thought I’d give a quick run down on the Disney Cultural Exchange in Orlando, FL for anyone who thinks it might be something they’d like to do, or even if you just want to know more about it. 1. Live in New Zealand or Australia: Unfortunately the Cultural Exchange Program is only open to people who live in NZ or Aus. HOWEVER, there are also programs under different titles and with slightly different setups for people from other countries outside of NZ and Aus, as well as probably most famous program, the Disney College Program for domestic students. 2. Be a tertiary student: Another requirement for the program is that you have to currently be studying at a tertiary provider (for example; university, polytech or TAFEs). You must have completed at …

Merry Christmas & A Happy New Year!

The countdown to Disney World is on! Today marks 11 days until I’m leaving home again on another adventure and it still doesn’t quite feel real. Happy New Year and a belated Merry Christmas everyone! I hope everyone’s festive season has been fab. Mine was super relaxing with a unconventional Christmas Eve dinner with close family. 2016 didn’t quite start the way I’d imagined.  I had a fab night in town celebrating New Year’s Eve with my friends, but had been hoping for a day at the beach soaking up the sun the following day. Sadly it wasn’t to be, with everything but lovely weather greeting us on the 1st. Luckily I got a peek of sunshine yesterday before I went back to work, where my family and I took a day trip to Muriwai Beach in the far west of Auckland. Despite the fact that I’m leaving in 11 days it still didn’t start to feel real until the other day when registration opened for housing. I currently have four potential roommates (three of …

Currently: December 2015

This month marked the end of an era for me– graduating university and finishing my schooling (for now). Bachelor of Communication Studies majoring in journalism. Holla! Walking down the main street in Auckland with all my fellow classmates, and then seeing everyone graduate was such an awesome experience and one that I’ll never forget! A bit weird being surrounded by people taking photos of you while you walk down the street though, I have to admit. In other news I’ve been working at Lush a lot, being super busy with the Christmas rush and saving as much as I can for the USA (21 days until I leave NZ, it hasn’t quite sunk in yet). I had a super relaxing Christmas with good food, drink and tunes with some of my close family which was really lovely. I’ve been quite slack lately with my blogging and haven’t really done any blogworthy things if I’m honest, but rest assured you’ll be bombarded with lots of blogs posts (and hopefully vlogs) very very soon. Meanwhile, here’s a …

Guess what?! I’m Moving to Orlando, Florida!

via @annaleemutz I am so so so excited to announce that in January next year I’ll be packing up my bags once again to move overseas! This time I’m off to Orlando, Florida to work at Walt Disney World! The excitement is real! If you’ve been reading my ‘Currently‘ posts the past couple of months you may have noticed that I’ve been banging on about a ‘secret’ trip that I couldn’t announce yet because I was still waiting for confirmation and guess what?! It’s confirmed! A couple of months ago I applied for the Disney International Cultural Exchange Program and since then I’ve been waiting in anticipation for my application to get accepted, then once that came through I had to attend an interview and after that, the most nerve-wracking wait to find out if I had been accepted into the program. Disney is just one of the those things that seemed like a really really awesome opportunity and I didn’t want to miss out. I was actually in the process of interviewing for an amazing job …
