City in a Snapshot: Top Tips for Düsseldorf, Germany

I’m not going to lie, when I think of Germany, Düsseldorf is definitely not the first place that springs to mind. But last year I found myself in Düsseldorf for my first trip to Germany and it really was a lovely city! Here are some of my tips for making the most of your time there in my second instalment of City in a Snapshot. Accommodation: It took us a while to find, but it was totally worth it because the place we stayed was incredibly cute, very comfortable and super affordable! I got a special offer from Booking.com (they have regular deals, so it’s always the first place I look,) for a place called Hotel Sir & Lady Astor, which was a quick walk away from the S-Bahn (the subway) and a quick walk to the main shopping district. We stayed for three nights and were treated to complementary breakfast each morning which gave you the option of a continental buffet or a hot breakfast, which varied each day. Couldn’t have had a better stay if …

It Took Me 3 Days To Get Home! | Vlog

If you remember what I was up to in January this year, you may remember I was making my way home from the UK, and it took me three days! From Cardiff to London, to Paris, to Hong Kong and finally home to Auckland it was a pretty tiring and long journey home. I wrote two blog posts about it, Part 1 and Part 2, but I also had some footage of the long trip which I thought I’d share with you. The very last footage of my Europe Trip. Enjoy tout le monde!

Food Photo Friday #20: Crêpes in Paris

Food: Savoury crêpe/ Consumed at: A little corner bistro in Paris/ Date: June 2014 I know it’s two days late, but oh well, you’ll have to live with it! Here’s a little throwback to warmer days while in Paris last year. If you guys were following me last year, you may have seen my travel posts about my time during Paris. The past couple of weeks I’ve been reminiscing about my Europe trip, so I thought it would be fitting to have a FPF from my time away. This crêpe was enjoyed at a little corner bistro just off from Rue de Rivoli accompanied by a bowl of delicious apple cider. This was halfway through our first full day in Paris. I can’t quite remember what was exactly in my crêpe, but from what I can recall it was a savoury crêpe filled with cheese, ham, spinach and an egg and from what I can remember it was really nice! I’m usually more of a sweet crêpe person, nutella and banana is one of my …

Food Photo Friday #10: Seafood Surprise

Food: Seafood Salad and Tiramisu/ Consumed: Vapiano, Düsseldorf, Germany/ Date: 2 July 2014 After an adventure in a foreign city, a much needed feed was definitely what we needed. This was a meal that Moana and I had in Düsseldorf after we’d had an little adventure out to Schloss Benrath. I had actually seen it recommended on Trip Advisor and thought it would be a cool place to go but wasn’t quite sure where it was. It was luck that led us there in the end. We were just having a look for somewhere to eat and spotted it! It was super busy and it did take a while for the food to be prepared (they prepared it right in front of you, which is quite exciting). I went for the seafood salad and a tiramisu for dessert which were both delicious! I loved the atmosphere at the restaurant, and all the staff were super friendly. They also had a cool way of paying, where you’re given a card, and every time you get something, …

City in a Snapshot: Paris (4 Day Itinerary)

By no means am I an expert on Paris, but after a few quick trips and a few visits to some of the more famous and touristy attractions, I thought I’d compile a 4 day Paris itinerary for anyone who is going to Paris for the first time, with limited time and knowledge. I’m one of those people who is always really interested in seeing where and what people do in places where I’ve been as well, so if you’ve been to Paris, I’d love to know what you did or would recommend. Here are a few suggestions on what to do and what to see, based on what I’ve done during my past few trips. Unfortunately I can’t recommend any good places to stay as I have almost always stayed with a local, apart from the time I stayed close to the CDG airport between flights. While I’ve been a few times, every time has been a 5 days or under trip, so I’m used to trying to get as much done as possible. …

Food Photo Friday #4: Brunch at Häagen-Dazs

Food: Banana Caramel Crêpe/ Consumed: Häagen-Dazs in Nice, France/ Date: July 27 2014 This post wraps up the first month of Food Photo Friday! Here goes: It was our final day in Nice, so Moana and I decided to treat ourselves to something for brunch before we went on our long train ride back to Paris, so whilst looking around, we stumbled across a Häagen-Dazs and thought we’d be a bit naughty and have ice-cream for brunch. I went for my usual caramel latte and then got the wonderful sounding, Banana Caramel Crêpe. The menu described it as, “a warm crepe, a scoop of Dulce de Leche and a scoop of Banoffee, slices of banana all drizzled with butterscotch sauce, whipped cream and a scattering of caramelised hazelnuts.” How fantastic does that sound?! It arrived looking deliciously beautiful and was unsurprisingly very sweet. It was nearly on the verge of being too sweet, but not quite! There was so much on my plate though, that I wasn’t able to finish it all! Definitely satisfying both …

Le Petite Train in Nice | Vlog

On our first day in Nice we thought a good way to explore Nice would be by going on a ride on the Petite Train that departs from Promenade des Anglais. I’d done the ride before and had loved seeing the view from the top of the hill, so I thought Moana might enjoy it too. Here’s a  quick vlog of our little trip on the train and a few photos too!
